Steve Greenberg, R. Kelly’s attorney, discussed with Bob Bianchi their attempts to make bail but being denied. Kelly has been subjected to threats and attacks while in prison and Greenberg has been attempting to remove Kelly from isolation and allow him to post bail. However, to date, Kelly has been denied these motions.
Greenberg’s arguments include the fact that Kelly is not a flight risk, does not deserve isolation, and is not being kept safe while imprisoned. The courts are also not setting dates for trial and there is ambiguity around the Covid-19 crisis disallowing speedy trial procedures.
This conversation also brings up the issue of being famous while on trial. While fame alone can cause logistical issues for high-profile trials, Covid-19 is further complicating the ability of attorneys to accomplish typical trial procedures.
