Fox News Night Court: Anti-Riot Legislation Debate

In the wake of some of the largest and longest-lasting series of demonstrations in decades, some lawmakers are determined to create legislation to help prevent acts of rioting, looting, and damage to cities where demonstrations take place. In Florida, the governor has been outspoken in his support for legislation recently passed that cracks down on perpetrators of violence during demonstrations. Some say, however, that these new laws are really attempting to infringe on the rights of peaceful protestors and discourage their involvement.

Bob Bianchi weighs in on this episode of Fox News Night Court. In Bianchi’s analysis, he shows that much of this new legislation is not new but merely enhances existing laws and gives more teeth to the state to prosecute those who violate others’ right to peacefully protest. Taking it a step further, Bianchi believes that laws such as these should actually help those who wish to peaceably assemble by protecting them from bad actors who will turn any protest violent if given the chance.
