Criminal Justice Program

Criminal justice issues are complex and involve multiple disciplines. Few have the experience that The Bianchi Law Group’s Criminal Justice Program’s attorneys and law enforcement professionals have achieved.

Our Criminal Justice Program is a dynamic program given by extremely competent, respected subject matter experts. We lecture on a multitude of topic, after consulting with the group that has asked us to come and present to them.

Robert A. Bianchi, Esq., began his legal career serving as an Assistant Prosecutor for 7 years. He then worked as a Criminal Defense Attorney for the next 12 years. He was honored to be appointed by the Governor of New Jersey to serve as the Morris County Prosecutor from 2007-2013. Since 2013 Mr. Bianchi is now back in practice handling criminal defense matters. He has also handled civil rights cases and has practiced in the area of police practices cases, such as, false arrest, malicious prosecution and excessive force cases. His experience in all areas of criminal justice is without question. He is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney. There are over 93,000 attorneys in New Jersey, but Mr. Bianchi is one of approximately 250 attorneys in New Jersey that are Certified Criminal Trial Attorneys.

David Bruno began his legal career as a criminal defense attorney. In 2007, he joined the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office where he served under Mr. Bianchi for over 5 years. While serving as an Assistant Prosecutor, Mr. Bruno tried some of the most high profile murder cases in New Jersey. He was assigned to the Major Crimes Unit that investigated and prosecuted the most serious criminal offenses, as well as serving in the Professional Standards Unit that monitors police misconduct. He also served in the Fraud Unit, where he gained invaluable experience about the investigations and prosecutions of white collar crimes. Mr. Bruno is also a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney, only 1 of 250 attorneys out of over 93,000 lawyers in New Jersey. Mr. Bruno now is a partner at the Bianchi Law Group, LLC.

Chief William Schievella is a law enforcement professional with years of experience in different areas of policing. He has served as a N.J. State Corrections Officer from 1987 to 1994. Afterward, Chief Schievella worked as a N.J. State Parole Officer in Jersey City and Paterson. He was promoted to the position of Sergeant in 2001 Newark and Passaic ultimately commanding the Homeland Security and Community Policing Units. In 2007, Chief Schievella joined the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and served under then Prosecutor, Robert A. Bianchi. Chief Schievella was promoted to the position of Deputy Chief of Investigations in the Prosecutor’s office in 2007. In 2009, he was promoted to the position of Chief of Investigations, the highest ranking law enforcement position in the office, directly under and reporting to then Prosecutor Bianchi. After retiring as Chief in 2013, Chief Schievella created the Police Studies Institute at the College of Saint Elizabeth and constantly develops law enforcement and community relations as the President of the N.J. Police Community Affairs Officers Association and the Italian American Police Society of N.J.

Messrs. Bianchi, Bruno, and Schievella worked together in the prosecutor’s office and have joined forces in the private sector to educate the public on issues involving the Criminal Justice System. They regularly train and lecture police officers, attorneys, college students, civic groups, administrators, and those interested in learning about the Criminal Justice System from professionals that have achieved the highest levels of success in this area of law.

While the lectures they provide suit many audiences, most lectures involve:

– How prosecutors and defense attorneys interact, what are the rules of engagement, and interesting cases they have prosecuted and defended;
– How police interact with prosecutors, judges, and the entire criminal justice system;
– Examples of issues we confronted when we ran the prosecutor’s office and insights that very few have knowledge about;
– Explaining how the system works, and answering questions of interest that few ever get the chance to learn, from our lecturers that were intimately involved in all policy making decisions when prosecutors;
– Community Affairs and the importance of community relations;
– Best practices for internal affairs;
– Practical tips for running and administering large agencies, with multiple disciplines;
– From investigation, arrest, to trial, practical experiences of interest to the audience;
