Endangering the Welfare of a Child in NJ
The Endangering the Welfare of a Child law in New Jersey is more serious that its Title 9 counterpart which criminalizes child neglect.
A subsection of the statute prohibits engaging in sexual conduct which would impair or debauch the morals of the child, or who causes the child harm that would make the child an abused or neglected child. A child is defined as any person under 16 years of age. The degree of the crime depends on the relationship between the defendant and the child. The crime will be a second degree if the defendant has a legal duty to care for the child or if they assumed responsibility for the care the child. The crime is a third degree if no such relationship exists.
Subsection B criminalizes sexually related offenses and does not require the legal duty or responsibility that subsection a does. This subsection also prohibits the sale and possession of child pornography in New Jersey.

The Penalties for Lewdness in New Jersey depend on the circumstances of the Lewdness. Lewdness may be a fourth-degree crime or a disorderly persons offense, depending on the circumstances.
